Photo Retreats, Individual and Group Seminars
As an artist and educator, my goals are to teach not only the technical aspects of creating a solid body of work and preparing for exhibition, but also and most importantly, how to come to terms with precisely what the students hope to express and how to authentically share their ideas with the most impact. As an educator, I find my greatest pleasure in contributing to that growth and development in both style and concept. The reward for engaged teaching in the arts is witnessing this process and evolution.
These workshops and consultation sessions are designed for beginner through advanced level lens-based image makers who want to explore deeper meaning in their work.
Advanced level students may choose critique and individual or group discussion sessions to increase the visual impact of their work. Beginning and intermediate level students may choose to experiment with ambient and artificial light modifiers, camera controls for extended and shallow depth of field, purposeful blur or stop action capture, or editing techniques through Adobe Photoshop for creative tonal adjustments and image composites.

Testimonials:
What sets Barbara Tyroler apart as a teacher is her ability to focus on the interests and needs of the students in her class. She quickly assesses the skill level and interests of each student and uses her broad knowledge and expertise to enhance the artistic potential of everyone in the group while encouraging the exploration of new approaches. Though she comes prepared with an agenda and goals for the group, each student benefits in very personal way from her guidance and encouragement. Just as important as the vast technical and artistic knowledge and guidance she offers, she seamlessly incorporates a diverse group of individuals into a relaxed, fun and cohesive group. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to take several classes from Barbara, most recently at Lake Logan in the NC mountains through the Cullowhee Mountain Arts summer workshop program. After each class, I have gained both more expertise and insight into my own work and an expanded cohort of friends with whom to share my interests.

I wanted to thank you for the wonderful experience you provided for us at the Lake Logan workshop. You put so much of yourself into the program, which is what made it so special. I learned a lot, grew a lot, laughed a lot and worked hard. We hit the ground running and used our time wisely. I really appreciate all that you did.
Thank you for the photos. I really enjoyed sharing them with my husband. He is looking forward to coming next year!
Thanks again for all that you do!
